As I want to get into the games industry and eventually work as an Environment Artist, I wanted to practise the full workflow of creating game-ready props. I chose objects such as an old candle holder, compass and book because these are the kinds of smaller environmental assets that could be used to populate a game environment and add detail and character to a scene.
I am using these assets to improve my modelling workflow in Maya, particularly creating clean and correct topology and properly UV unwrapping each model. After modelling and UVs, I am taking the assets into Substance Painter to practise texturing and creating materials. My aim is to become more confident with the complete asset workflow from reference to a finished textured prop.
